Anxiety has a way of stopping us in our tracks.
There have been seasons in my life when fear and uncertainty became so overwhelming that I felt completely frozen. My mind raced with questions, worries, and endless "what ifs." The future seemed uncertain, and the burdens felt too heavy to carry.
If you've ever felt that way, you're not alone.
Many people search for Bible verses about anxiety, hoping to find a single verse that will instantly take the fear away. While God's Word is powerful and full of promises, I have learned that overcoming anxiety is not simply about finding the right verse. It is about building a relationship with the One who gave us His Word.
When anxiety comes, I have learned to give everything to the Lord. Not part of it. Everything.
I ask Him to increase my faith. I ask Him for strength. I ask Him to help me understand what He is doing in my life. Most importantly, I seek His face through prayer and my precious Bible.
I believe we speak to God through prayer, and God speaks to us through His Word.
When we get into the living Word of God and seek Him with our whole heart, He gives peace in the middle of the storm.
As the song says, sometimes God calms the storm, and sometimes He calms me.
The Bible Verse That Has Comforted Me Through Difficult Times
One verse that has brought me tremendous comfort during anxious seasons is Hebrews 13:5:
"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
People may disappoint us. Friends may not understand. Circumstances can change overnight. But the Lord remains faithful.
When everything around us feels uncertain, we can rest in the fact that God has not abandoned us. He knows exactly where we are, exactly what we need, and exactly what lies ahead.
His presence is often the greatest comfort during our darkest moments.
When Our Family Faced Financial Uncertainty
At one point in our lives, my husband went nearly two years without receiving a paycheck.
Our savings disappeared. We watched our business struggle. One by one, we began selling business equipment and assets just to survive.
From a worldly perspective, everything looked hopeless.
We didn't know what would happen next. Would we lose our business? Would we lose our home? Would we lose everything we had worked so hard to build?
Yet in the middle of that trial, God gave me something I cannot fully explain.
He gave me peace.
Not because our circumstances suddenly improved. Not because all the answers appeared overnight. But because He reminded me that everything belongs to Him anyway.
If we lost our home, He was still God.
If we lost our vehicles, He was still God.
If we lost our possessions, He was still God.
Even if I lost every material thing I owned, He would still be enough.
That realization changed me.
I began to understand that my security was never found in possessions, savings accounts, or business success. My security was found in Christ.
God used that difficult season to loosen my grip on material things and strengthen my dependence upon Him.
We are still walking through parts of that journey today, but we have seen God answer prayers, restore opportunities, and provide in ways only He can.
The trial wasn't wasted.
It grew our faith.
Why Prayer Is So Important When Anxiety Strikes
God already knows what we are going through.
He knows the number of hairs on our heads. He knows our thoughts from afar off. He knows every fear before we ever speak it.
Yet He still wants us to come to Him.
Just as parents love hearing from their children, our Heavenly Father desires fellowship with His children.
When anxiety comes, I talk to God as though He is sitting right beside me — because He is.
I tell Him everything.
I cry out to Him.
I ask Him to wrap His arms around me and hold me in His hand so that I can feel His presence ever so close.
I ask Him for wisdom and discernment because He promises to give wisdom to those who ask.
Prayer isn't simply a religious practice.
Prayer is a relationship.
God's Word Is Living and Personal
One reason I do not depend on a list of verses alone is that I have experienced how God's Word comes alive exactly when we need it.
A faithful preacher can stand before a congregation and deliver one message, yet God can use that same message to meet the needs of every heart listening.
That is how our all-knowing, all-powerful God works.
The same verse can comfort one person, convict another, encourage someone else, and provide direction for another believer entirely.
God knows exactly what each heart needs.
Sometimes a single verse can bring peace. Sometimes an entire passage provides direction. Sometimes a sermon answers questions we have carried for weeks.
God knows how to speak to His children.
But we must seek Him.
The Bible tells us to seek the Lord while He may be found. We must work while it is day because night is coming when no man can work.
We also need to remember that not everything happening around us is about us. There is a spiritual battle taking place all around us. Understanding that reality helps us look beyond our circumstances and trust that God is working even when we cannot see it.
The Greatest Lesson Anxiety Has Taught Me
If I could share one lesson with someone struggling with anxiety today, it would be this:
Surrender control.
Give it to God.
Then leave it there.
That sounds simple, but it may be one of the hardest things we ever do.
Many of us hand our burdens to God and then immediately pick them back up again.
I've done that countless times.
But over the years, I have learned to surrender even the smallest concerns to Him.
I used to want control over everything.
Now I would much rather let God direct my steps.
Life becomes much lighter when we stop carrying burdens that were never ours to carry.
As I often remind myself and others:
God knows all about it.
He knows your situation. He knows your fears. He knows your future. He knows what He is doing.
Our responsibility is not to control every outcome.
Our responsibility is to trust Him and pray, "Thy will be done.
"
The Prayer Journal That Helps Me Stay Close to God
One of the tools God has used most in my walk with Him is prayer journaling.
For years, I searched for a journal that would help me stay focused during prayer, record God's faithfulness, and grow spiritually through every season of life.
After using my own system for many years, I created the My Walk With God Two-Year Reflection Journal to help other women deepen their relationship with the Lord.
This journal was designed to help women:
- Develop a consistent daily prayer habit
- Record prayer requests and answered prayers
- Reflect on God's faithfulness over time
- Stay grounded in Scripture
- Grow spiritually through intentional reflection
- Build a stronger daily relationship with Christ
- Track spiritual growth over a two-year journey
When anxiety tries to steal my peace, one of the first things I do is open my Bible, spend time in prayer, and write down what God is teaching me.
Looking back through answered prayers reminds me of something important:
God was faithful then, and He will be faithful now.
If you're looking for a practical way to strengthen your prayer life, grow in God's grace, and document His faithfulness through every season, the My Walk With God Two-Year Reflection Journal was created for that purpose.
Looking for a meaningful gift for a woman of faith? The Ladies Daily Prayer Journal Gift Set makes a beautiful, faith-filled gift for any season — birthdays, Mother's Day, Christmas, or simply to encourage a sister in Christ.

Final Thoughts
If anxiety has left you feeling overwhelmed, frozen, or exhausted, remember this:
God knows.
He knows what you are facing. He knows what tomorrow holds. He knows every burden you carry.
Bring it all to Him.
Pray.
Open His Word.
Seek His face.
Trust His promises.
And when fear tries to return, surrender it again.
You do not have to carry it alone.
The Lord is your strength and your shield.
And He has promised:
"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." — Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)
God knows all about it.
Trust Him.
